Metrolight Helps Fry’s Electronics Reduce Lighting Energy Consumption by 70%
Metrolight’s solution provides dramatic savings and quick payback in seven months
Dana Point, CA - February 8, 2011 – Metrolight, the leading provider of energy-efficient eHID and LED solutions for high power lighting, announced today that Fry’s completed retrofitting all of their North American stores with Metrolight’s lighting solution which is based on their smart universal electronic ballast, the SmartHIDTM. Fry's Electronics now enjoys Metrolight’s SmartHID enabled fixtures, all digitally controlled from Fry’s headquarters, allowing complete dynamic control. Lamp wattage was reduced from 400W to 320W on the sales floor and from 250W to 175W in their stock rooms. Dimming policies were put in place that matched shopper’s traffic patterns, resulting in lower maintenance costs.
The solution enabled Fry's to reduce lighting energy consumption as well as control lighting for all stores from a central location. Distributed by West Lite Supply and installed by Sylvania Lighting Services, Fry’s was able to reduce the total number of lighting fixtures by 45% and still maintain the same light level resulting in a 70% energy savings.
“The Metrolight solution allowed us to maintain our original warm and pleasant lighting atmosphere while reducing lamp power and overall number of fixtures,” said Kevin Robins, Director of Construction and Energy at Fry’s Electronics. “With complete control of our lighting system, we are able to dynamically adapt lighting based on schedule and shoppers' traffic patterns, resulting in maximum savings.”
"We are excited to help Fry's save over $160,000 per store per year with our SmartHID lighting energy-efficiency solution," said Michael McMahon, Metrolight's Director of US Business Development. "Our technology provided Fry's the advantage over all other solutions that they were looking for - cost savings without compromising light quality as well as meeting their green policy requirements."
"West-Lite approached Metrolight to offer their energy efficiency solutions for high-power lighting. In deveolping a solution for Fry's that included the latest Electronic HID technology along with dimming controls, their state of the art lighting solution paid for itself within seven months," said Brenda Puckett, VP of West-Lite Supply Co., Inc.
